There are a number of good options, from paid advertising to social media, but my personal favorite is to combine a content marketing strategy with search engine marketing, so that I can attract targeted, diversified users to my site, in a way that is natural for them and helps them to solve the problems they’re currently facing.
For an overview of how SEO works and some of the top mistakes beginners make, check out this video from Google guru Matt Cutts:
The first thing you might be wondering is: why do I prefer search engine optimization strategies over other sources of traffic?
Well, the answer is simple: high engagement and high conversion.
The point of SEO is to get in front of users (aka: potential customers) that are actively looking for your brand online. They might not be searching for your brand name, or even a broad term for your product or service, but the point is to target them for any of a number of long tail searches that are relevant to what you’re selling.
For affiliate marketers especially, this source of traffic is going to be your bread and butter, since it is effective and provides positive ROI for terms that aren’t worth it from a paid advertising perspective.
The other reason I love SEO and content marketing is because this is one of the best forms of marketing assets available. You run a campaign for a set of keywords, or a group of pages on your site, and when you succeed, the results of your campaign are likely to stay in place for a long time.
That leaves you free to go on and invest in a second, and then a third campaign, while still reaping revenues from the first.
That’s completely opposite to social media or paid ads, where as soon as you stop investing in the campaign, the results stop coming in. That, to me, is what makes SEO more powerful than anything else, and where I prefer to spend my time, energy, and budget.
Getting Started with Search Engine Optimization
If you’re just starting out with your business, you should consider putting a search engine marketing plan in place as early as possible.
If you don’t know where to begin, i recommend you find a local SEO company to work with, such as RichmondSEO.org
Unfrotunately, for many entrepreneurs who are bootstrapping, a professional search agency might be a little out of your price range, in which case there are a number of resources that can help you get started.
